What looks like a blood splat on the inside of a day 18-21 egg?

... of the three hatched I did this summer, there was at least one egg that was alive and seemingly doing well until the very last few days, when I would see a suspicious dark reddish patch on the inside of the shell at candling. It really looks like a blood patch. When I attempt to search for info, the blood ring keeps popping up. This is not a blood ring. One even reminded me of someone who got shot in the head and had the resulting splat on the wall behind (as seen on TV of course!!) ... sorry for that graphic thought. Anyway, these eggs haven’t hatched. Is it blood? Why? Did the chick somehow scratch a blood vessel? The splats are big, but I wouldn’t think big enough to bleed out completely? Of course this is just on candle. Haven’t brought myself to do a complete eggtopsy.

I have one remaining egg - EE mix from my old hens - doing really well, but tonight I see a reddish patch and no more movements. It should be getting ready to internally pip. Sorry, can’t take a pic (rather it would be worthless). Really hoping at least this one hatched (all the others were shipped eggs and had a really awful time/various problems and maybe one is still going, but doubt it) as it was my happy unshipped control egg ...

I haven’t seen that before, but it sounds like a chick could have hit a blood vessel. If you do end up doing an eggtopsy or it ends up hatching I’d be curious to see what it looks like from the inside.
