What made you happy today?

I will be mighty happy if, only if my Japanese bantam Agent J stops screaming.

Agent J is broody and not letting anyone come into the nestbox to lay egg, there are 3 nestboxes, she is so tiny only occupy 1/2 of 1 nestbox, but she screams and chases everyone else out. What a troublesome tiny little fluff!!! She is tiny, but has a high pitch voice...

Things are going well. Everyone is calm and quiet. Two of the hens are laying down right next to hardware cloth that separates them from the bottom-of-the-pecking-order hen (the third one is in their nest box). They might have laid down there anyway but it's nice to see they aren't avoiding her or anything and feel comfortable there.

I'm sure roosting together on one roost has had a good impact on the four of them. I think in chicken minds that means "we are one flock." Their food cups are right next to each other (on opposite sides of the hardware cloth) so they're eating together, too.

If all goes well over the next few days (maybe a week?) we'll open the door that lets them be together and see what happens. I don't mind if she is the bottom ranking of the four of them as long as all four consider themselves a group.

Despite the fact that they all grew up together there are HUGE personality problems among our twelve hens. We've been trying to sort things out with different groupings and different pens and it's been an ongoing mess for the past 20 months, ever since we got them as chicks. Integrating these four would be a big step forward.
Tonight at dusk I opened the divider between the two pens. Everyone was roosting already. It might have been too dark for any of them to see that the divider was open.

I gently lifted the solo hen off of her side of the roost and set her next to the three sisters on their side. She tried to crawl under the hen next to her, maybe as a show of submission? I stuck around for a bit to see if there was going to be any drama but there wasn't. She got a few know-your-place pecks from the others and then everyone went to sleep.

They're all sleeping quietly together. 😲🤩:wee

I left the divider open so she can return to her side if she wants; her nest box, food and water are all still there. I'm watching them on the camera and I'll check on them first thing in the morning but I really hope this means they can live together! :fl

Edit: a few hours later one of the sisters pushed the solo hen off the roost with some squawking, but the solo hen just jumped up onto the feeder next to the roost and is sleeping comfortably there. 🤷‍♀️
