What made you interested to have chickens?

I had an uncle that ran an elevator and they always had baby chicks every spring. Uncle would give some to me and the other cousins, and they never survived. One year they did~~~I had three little roosters. They lived with us for years, and were mean as heck and we had to carry a broom every where we went outside, but we all loved them. I don't have chickens yet, but I love messing with animals and the pics and stories that everyone tells on here just makes me want them more than ever!!!! I don't know if I will be able to even have them next spring, because DH is disabled and just not able to move like he use too, and keeping up with everything else is a strain, and I can't have them in the Alpaca barn because of cross contamination. . .but I will have them!!!!!

I originally got DUCKS for slug control... now I have so many that if there are any slugs left on the property they deserve an award.

I have been contemplating getting some chickens recently... I wonder why <scratches head>

i was thinking of getting quail eggs and hatching those before i got into chicken. my mom had 'maintenance free' roosters (statues) that she had been collecting for the past few years and while looking for quail eggs and stuff for mom last christmas i kept coming across chicken hatching eggs.

i did a lot of research on different breeds and kept coming across BYC and seeing how much fun people were having raising them that i thought i would give it a shot! bought an incubator with a turner, got 7 bantam polish eggs and hatched out 1 chick and decided i needed to get it (now a roo!) a friend. and the addiction began!

now i'm thinking i'll have to get my pond in the ground next summer and get some welsh harlequin ducks. i'm also thinking of getting a pair of turkeys for raising for their eggs and eventually some offspring!

My friend had 3.. I bought one which lived at his house. And then we un-friended and I bought her home. And bought her a friend.

and then they were smelly, messy, and boring and mum did all the fun jobs like feeding and left me the cleaning.

Enter 2 years Hiatus....

And then I found the one and only photo of Dawn sitting on my arm. And pictures of fluffy butted orpington. So I badgered Dad into building me a coop. And bought an Aussie and a Leghorn. And then an ISA.

Now if only this were my house.. bahahahaah!! oh the critters that would be in my backyard!!!

My interest started as a homeschool project a few years ago. But I think I have always been interested in them since I was little and got to watch some on my Uncle's farm when we visited.

They are certainly great stress relievers, too! They just love you because... you have raisins??!
