This is happening in my duck egg:

(The circle around the embryo)

. . . and I learned that it's not harmful or anything . . . but it got me to thinking, and now I'm really curious:

What causes it?

Does anybody know?

You can see the heartbeat by 3 days and a wiggle jiggle flippy if you watch them when you candle. You may just be getting a good view of the embryonic sac. The light usually makes them move around a lot.

This is what I have NO idea what it is . . . that circle outside of the embryo . . . DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEA. I am soooooo curious.

WHAT IS THIS? I AM REALLY WANTING TO KNOW!

I WILL BE ABLE TO SLEEP ONCE I FIGURE IT OUT!!!!!

I have a guess. I think it's the yolk pressed up against that side of the egg. Yup. That's what it looks like to me.

It would make a small circle where it is contacting the membrane.

Here is an image of a chicken egg at day 4 - I see a small circle around the embryo. http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/09/hatch-along-with-chicken-chick-part-4.html

Yes, that's possible . . . :) It just really confused me, because on my egg (the picture above is not my egg) the embryo is on one side of the circle . . . almost outside of it :|, it's not in the middle. Maybe it is the same thing.

Well, the embryo is going to be on the side of the yolk, yes ? Anyone who knows about this feel free to correct me - I am in uncharted territory here. But from any sketches and photo's I have seen, the embryo is next to the yolk, attached to it. So the embryo would not necessarily be in the center of the circle.

I am now getting happier! I candled the egg this morning (this is day 7), and the circle is even bigger than it was yesterday. . .
