What makes your chickens most happy?

free ranging, when it's time for their food, and when they find a bug!
I’m so scared to let them have unsupervised free range time in my backyard. It’s fenced and they mostly stay around covered areas so I’m not worried about hawks, but they love to try to sneak into my garden to eat tomato leaves and green bean leaves (I read both were toxic). I’m still working on their coop and run, it’s turning into a nightmare project, so I end up spending a lot of time just watching them so they aren’t cooped up.

I watch my flock when they are out free ranging. I come out during the morning, noon, the hottest time of day, and evening. So I visit them about 5 times on average every day. I also like to check on them from my window. If I am too busy, I usually just visit them during the hottest time of day or morning, when the hawks and vultures are out.

Me!
I just had some work to do near the run and although usually they free-range we had a load of jackdaws mob the run so i shut them in with some scratch for a while. As i was working around the run they would move position to be as close as possible to me in the run then lay down and sunbathe or doze until i moved then they followed. Just content to be near and in my company. Oh (sigh) if only i could find a nice guy whom felt the same. There again could i find a guy that could compare to chickens 😆🐣🐥🐤🐓
