Well yesterday I had a Peacock Pizza Pool Party and I invited my church youth group.
I have gotten so used to my peas, so it was weird watching people react to them. I would say every single person was afraid of them. Some people were more afraid of them than others. For example I would take a few people back to the aviary and they would be like "Wow. I didn't know you owned peafowl. How long have you been raising them?" Then I would answer their questions and say to them that they could pet Peep. I always warn people that he does "bite" but not hard. He just pecks at your finger when you hold out your hand and after he pecks you, you can pet him. After telling people that he pecks, they would get afraid and I would reach my hand through the fencing and start petting him and then they could reach in and pet him too. Only one person from the whole party actually went inside the pen. Everyone else was too afraid to walk in. Some said, "Maybe I will go inside later when I build up enough courage." They never did go in. The one guy that did go inside didn't really get to pet Peep. I think his body language was not right.
When I was little and I went to the zoo there was a group of free range turkeys and I was afraid to feed them but once I did, I realized they were not that scary. I guess big birds can be scary for some people.
Anyone else have a story about someone being afraid of your peafowl or other birds?
