I was looking at videos of a particular incubator and came across this one guy I feel is spreading a lot of bad imformation. I don't know...from everything I've read on here and on other sites what I saw this guy do and say just makes me cringe.

In one video he had eggs he'd collected from a neighbor friend and had drawn in them with marker to tell him when they eggs had been collected. I thought I read only pencil if you mark them.

Then he told people to wash the eggs in cold water so you can get poop and stuff off. I thought you get the cleanest eggs and don't wash because you want to keep the bloom on there.

In another video he showed a chick hatching and you could also see another chicken had cracked its egg open. All eggs were still in the turner. This video was done a month ago. The other video was several months ago and a few commentors on that one told him to remove the turner.

I'm going to do what I've read on many many sites which says to not wash and to remove the turner, but how bad is it what this guy has done? He's gotten decent hatch rates at around 50% but I can't help but think he could get more.

Thing is, I have only one incubator...

50% is NOT a decent hatch rate... he could definitely get more.

I use marker to mark ALL of my hatching eggs. Sharpie. I get 75-100% hatch most the time.

Pencil rubs off, if under a hen... we all have reasons we do what we do.... but you are right to be using your common sense and avoiding someone else's stupidity. ALWAYS do what makes sense to YOU. :thumbsup

If you learn something new, switch it up. ;)

Good luck and happy hatching! :fl:jumpy:jumpy
