What NOT to feed my little garbage disposals...

I've come to believe that chickens will only eat what won't kill them. Heck the things will eat styrofoam insulation and have no problems!! I've got Morning Glories growing on the fence of the run. (highly poisonous)They don't bother it BUT they jump up and pick off the buds of the gourds that are growing with in them!! I don't give them things I like raw potato skins or onion and garlic but they get just about whateverelse is leftover and not "growing" get flung over the fence to them.

I've read about chickens eating mice... but is it ok to give them mice?

I've got traps set for the mice in my shed, and just want to know if it is appropriate to give them the remains or not.

Thanks, Chris

This is a great thread. Im glad it found new life! Hope someone can answer your question. I know chickens will kill mice and snakes and such but I don't think they eat them.

Most mice are going to have parasites fairly bad . . . tapeworms, roundworms, and the like. Some infestations can look like horror shows. There's nothing you can do to stop a chicken from eating any mice she manages to get a hold of, but I wouldn't want to offer mine any without cooking it first.

Yep, they do.

All in one gulp, too. I often wonder how it they can fit it.

about the chickens eating mice....

you have to be very careful that no one in your area uses any sort of poison to kill mice...if the chicken eats a mouse that has eaten poison this may result in a secondary poisoning and may kill the chicken

Glad I found this. DH cooked a turkey breast last night and the carcas still has small bits of meat on it that I don't have the patience to pick off. He suggested I give it to the chickens, but I put it in the fridge until I found out if it was OK. It's not salted so I thought it might be ok.

well we had a 20 pounds turkey last night.......so today after I took all the meat off the bone....this is where the turkey carcus went.....to the chickens, and the cat
