It's a blanket usually made out of old rags or clothes (at least the way my great grandmother did it lol.) Very warm, though quite heavy. Hope this helps, maybe someone on here can post a pic, I don't know how lol.

It is something that is made from a really useless hobby(this is a joke among quilters), where we take perfectly good fabric and cut it into squares, rectangles or other shapes. Then they are sewn all back together to make a blanket that is usually used on beds. During the early history of this country and sometimes by people that like to recycle or be frugal with their resources, quilts are/were made out of old clothes. Normally there is a top that is peiced in an interesting design, a middle layer that is called batting and a solid or pieced backing fabric.

This is a fairly simple quilt for a twin size bed.
