what on earth is it?

thanks for the link eggcessive, ive got to page 10 so far and have lots of info :) so from what ive read dry pox is if they just have the scabs on their head/comb/wattles, wet pox is if its also in the mouth and lots of pus? is this correct? if so im just dealing with dry pox i think (none of them have yellow/pus in the mouths.)

I'm not an expert on pox since I have only seen a single pox mark on a comb a few times, but those pictures of your really look like the wet form. Check their mouths and airway often, because it lasts for weeks, and they may not have developed them yet. The chickens that get it and recover are immune to that strain in the future, but you also might want to check into getting those who don't (or any new chickens) get it immunized for pox.

we lost 3 hens today (all were in quarantine but died very quickly) :( im heartbroken. thats a total of 5 so far. it seems to be killing them really fast and that i find scary. the vet told me they would die if they didnt eat, but they are eating? the 2 that had their eyes closed we tube fed. in this first pic (taken yesterday) the 3 chickens on the left have all died today.

this little lady died today

still with us and doing well.

doing well

one on the left is critical and bein tube fed, one on the right died today.

my makeshift quarantine

Sorry for your loss. This must be a really bad strain of pox. I can understand how some people would really want to vaccinate their birds for pox if they live in an area with many mosquitoes. Please continue to share your experience with us because it is a real learning experience for those that have not seen the diphtheric or wet form of pox.
