Well my chicks came today, and only two didn't survive shipping. the remaining 27 appear happy and healthy, and are having a grand time running around the brooder! So have a two questions for you all, and my apologies because the second is a bit morbid, but can you help me identify the breed of some chicks?

WARNING: third and fourth pictures are of a dead chick, so if you don't want to see that please close your eyes and scroll past.

First off is my McMurray Hatchery Free Exotic Chick: Based on it's size in comparison with the rest of my order I'm thinking it's a Bantam breed, possibly Silver Sebright?

WARNING - Dead chick pics.

I had two that were DOA, and they were identical. trying to identify them so that I can possibly piggy-back onto the second smaller order I have coming later this week via my feed store. The options were blue cochin and mottled cochin. What's throwing me off with these poor little guys is the lack of foot feathers, but my non-feathered varieties are all accounted for (black Japanese, white Japanese, and Polish crested)

they appear to be polish to me, If I had to go off of your options. I think I see a kind of "cap" on the head. As for your mystery chick, I believe you are right on about a silver sebright

I don't know what the live chick is, But if I had to guess I would say you are right.

The dead ones are mottled houdans for sure

Sorry about the dead chicks, but not anything you could do about, at least there were only 2. Good luck with the rest of your chicks.

Smokey - Wish I had a picture of them, but I'm 99% certain my polish are alive - I have two little chicks running around the brooder with very pronounced head puffs, far bigger than my poor dead chicks.

Ccc..chickens - No chance they were mottled houdans, as I never ordered those (Unless MmcMmessed up big time!).

i got some that were identical to those

mine were from cackle

I'm pretty sure at this point that my DOA chicks were my mottled cochins. Also sad to report that one of my polish died in the night, and the other polish isn't looking so good either, although I'm hoping for the best with that little one.
