What other breed to raise with Barred Rocks??

If you're in the USA and planning to get these birds from a commercial hatchery, don't count on those Barred Rocks being docile to other chickens. I've had some from a few different hatcheries and they are all absolute tyrants to other chickens. I'd get something full size and with a fair bit of attitude with them. Rhode Island Reds (production reds) or Wyandottes would be good choices, they're both pretty scrappy.

I Have 4 barred rocks that live with 12 other hens....and my barred rocks have never been a problem....no bullying been pleasant since the day one

My barred rock is pretty dominate. She is people friendly but a bit of a bully. My langshan is big and bad enough to keep her in line without being a bully. I have a RIR too. She gets along great with the entire flock. My buff orps vary in personality but are my favorites along with Easter Eggers and cuckoo marans.
I think it just depends on the individual chicken.
I have Silver laced Wyandottes, Barred Rocks, RIR’s, and A couple of Easter Eggers. By far my RIR’s are the warbird. They won’t be bullied but they aren’t bullies themselves. The Barred Rocks, although wonderful birds, are bullies. I am going through the same process of finding breeds to go with my flock. I am down to 7 from 15 and need a few more. RIR’s will be on the list to replace the other eight. I tend to get three of each. Then they all have similar numbers within the flock. My Barred rocks are independent when free ranging but they have proven to be the most resilient of all the breeds I have.
