What percentage of backyard flocks....

Jeffross---

I sympathize with your sentiments. Sometimes though, we beginners think our chickens have something when that's not it. (Kind of like taking the car in and thinking it is a really serious problem and then finding out it was really something simple and cheap to fix).....

I hope that you are able to obtain optimum health for your flock. It sounds like they are all O.K. but you have concerns that they may be residual 'carriers', if I am understanding correctly. I'm wondering if you have access to a good chicken vet near your location? If you don't you could consult with Dr. Peter Brown, aka 'the chicken doctor'. He is very knowledgeable and aware of chicken illnesses. He charges a fee of $25 for a call back. I think fee is waived if you purchase some supplies from their site.

Here is his website:

Had I know about his site , I probably would have used it instead of 'on line vet' -- although online vet could be accessed in the middle of the night -- I got some one from Europe to help me---fee there $30. I got good advice to deal with an eyeworm problem ---but went farther with some other sources, and now use an imported product...as a preventative. I was fearful that my chcken would possibly scratch out her eye, or the eye could become damaged.

It could be that your chooks are better off than you think. It could be that they do have something.... it would probably help your peace-of-mind to have more information IMO. If they have fowl pox, isn't it like chicken pox in humans? They will never get it again? Before childeren were vaccinated for the 'childhood diseases' there would be parties where people could expose their pre-schoolers to the the disease to 'get it over with' so I have heard.

I did talk to Dr. Brown about something in one of my chckens on Friday. He also told me that (I hope I got this correct) there is a program on internet radio on Mondays starting at 12:00 I think. I have no experience with this, but may have a chance to check it tomorrow.
