Last night my Spotted Polish decided for the first time ever that she was Broody, and two she was going to be so outside. We have never had a problem with predators. We herd her screaming and went out there After grabbing a flashlight from the counter, to find a trail of feathers. She came stumbling out of a bush in shock. We put her in a separate coop last night in a comfy towel. The predator tried to open the door to the coop we heard it and went out immediately. The third time the dog scared it off. She has no feathers on her chest/belly (they are all over the yard). Her eye is swollen shut. Poor dear.
There is no scat anywhere or footprints.

Almost certainly coon. I had my first......and one and only death loss ever......about a month ago, when a hen decided to abandon the safety of the chicken house to roost in the barn. Coons got her the first night, and have been on a rampage around here ever since.

If you have a game camera put it up. I'm sure it will be back and then you will know for sure what you're dealing with. I love my cameras. I get critters on my cameras most night. That's when they roam here. Last night I saw a fox and a cat on the cameras. The date is wrong on the camera. The cat out behind some of the coops last night.
