What predator just eats the head and a little more?

Still trolling?

You are the one who claims to be the xpert trapper. You have said so many times. Rather than taking shots at everyone else, perhaps you should be the one to step forward to offer advice on how to trap not only coons, but foxes, coyotes and all other threats?
I’m not trolling. I’ve also never claimed to be an expert trapper. I posted in this thread and noticed your post afterwards nothing more. I’m not taking shots at anyone else except you. I think to offer advice to others you should have at least some experience catching or excluding predators.
Maybe you should start off your helpful post with “I have never trapped and animal but here’s my advice”. This way the people seeking advice can weed out posters looking for attention.
Or maybe you can even link that last thread where you lied repeatedly. You know the one “where the predators have never got past my electric fence”
I can do it for you if you want me to. I aim to please.
I was under the impression that the point is to help with advice that actually works and can be backed up with at least some hands on experience not some generic info pulled from that net that anyone with a computer or phone could do.
You do you HowardE.

Taking shots at me personally IS trolling.

Again, rather than wasting your time telling yourself how much I suck, use that time in a constructive manner and put together your own article on how to trap predators so as to minimize all threats of harm to a flock of birds. You've said it can be done....you should show us all how.

The problem with that is everyone’s situation is totally unique. One generic article on trapping doesnt offer much help. You would have to have at least some “experience” to even come close to know what you’re talking about. Otherwise you’re just repeating what you’ve heard. I don’t see how that’s helpful. If someone has managed to navigate their way into this forum they’ve most likely already read the generic trapping info and are looking for more specific advise that you couldn’t possibly give. I personally only give advice to people when I have dealt with the similar issues. If more people would follow that advice their would be less of the blind following the blind.

FWIW, when that article was developed, I was asked by BYC staff to submit it for one of their awards. They thought it was helpful.

You simply claiming to know a whole lot about trapping is not helpful either. Advice limited to trap it and and shoot it does nothing.

Again what you need to do it put together your own article on how to do things. As for the generic nature of it, even books written on subjects like this are generic in nature. Again, you don't need to write a book, but if you are going to be such a vocal critic of others, to give yourself any credibility at all, you need to step up yourself.

The advice given was in contrast to sitting outside waiting all night for the animal to arrive and then shoot it. It wasn’t meant to be in-depth. I don’t act like I’m more intelligent than everyone else. I give most the benefit of the doubt they can properly set a cage trap and toss some bait in the back. Not to mention traps come with instructions. A simple YouTube search would cover just about any kind of trap set anyone could ask for.

I can personally vouch for havoc an his help. He took the time out of his life to help me get the right traps, right materials, what kind of bait to use if I wasn't going to use scents, showed me how to set them up, where to get good honest trapping material, even what snares to get the whole 9 yards. The fella knows his trapping that is no lie and has also helped me with injured fowl I mean I have nothing but respect for the guy since I joined byc even with a junk rooster that my wife insists she keeps, but that's neither here nor there.
And none of this besides the link to get the materials was generic he spent along time helping me with putting a stop to the critters getting my gamefowl pictures, lectures, videos etc. I've have trapped 18 coons and other critters since he helped learned me and I haven't lost a game bird since.

Take it how ya want to but none of it was a waste of my time or money.

If what you described happened during the day that sounds a lot like a hawk or owl. Owls feed until about the time the sun gets under the horizon to right before it comes over. Hawks feed when the owls dont. I have lost a number of birds to owls the tell tale signs are head and neck eaten and dragged against shelter.

That's for sure, I KNOW a hawk did it recently here,(at 8:40 AM) I caught it "red-handed" dropping an EE pullet & leaving behind a Dominique headless/neckless had began on the breast area. Checked camera and yep that hawk was certainly the one who got 'em both. Lesson learned because "such & such" - "always" does this, well not always the camera doesn't lie .

Within a few more days we had as many as 40+ at one time checking out the chickens, often a dozen or more for several days. Had we not taken care of things (more covered area, always watching and other measures) I'd venture we'd not have our 50+ chickens today. I've never seen (nor heard of ) so many hawks at one time in one place (yes I'm aware they migrate ) but wow..!!!!!!!

I'm not a professional trapper but I play one on tv
Only had one coon experience. Those suckers can be smart, pull the bait out of a live trap out the side and never enter, toss the trap out in the woods. Learn and adapt. Put a big rock on the trap and boards on the sides. Success, no more dead chickens. I used parts of the victim/dead chicken for bait.
