What predator?

Don’t you love how the young ones love to hang out and all the dangerous spots. My young ones always want to sleep on the window ledge of their coop in the summer when I had the window open. I mean it has hardware cloth but I’m probably not the smartest idea to be right up on it where they can see you. I would have to go in there every night pluck them off that and put them on the roost pole For the first month or so and Yep the young ones always seem to be the most interested in the woods line. I’m sorry for your loss. And I hope you’re able to figure out what happened so you can try to fix it

Yes I think a bear would’ve done much much more damage. And I really hope it wasn’t because there’s not too many ways to predator proof a coop against a bear

We don’t have a lot of fishers to worry about around our house so I don’t know if they like to kill just one or multiples. If there a problem around your house you probably know better than I do about them. And less he got one and then got startled and ran off. Like I said we don’t have a whole lot around here. We have of course hawks and eagles, coyotes, foxes, bobcats, raccoons, weasels and here recently coy wolves.

We have a bear with 2 cubs here. I’m more concerned about my dogs should the see the cubs. I keep my cat in at night because of predators. Last night the cat got out n wouldn’t come back in. It’s possible this pullet spent a night out and never knew what was going to happen. I usually do a head count but now I have quite a few more youngsters. I mess up the count every time I try

Sometimes I have to count several times. Especially if they’re similar breeds and young that sometimes I think I’ve missed or double counted somebody. I don’t know what kind of berries you have where you live but around my area they’re only black bears in there for the most part vegetarians they will eat small animals from time to time but at least a black bear wouldn’t kill it and leave it.
Maybe your cat sensed something outside and wanted to protect. I know that my cat would chase off or try to threaten the dogs when they came near the chIckes even though I know they wouldn’t hurt But I think the cat was just protecting the chicken because she loves chickens

Btw
That pullet would of been screaming and the rooster n chickens would of heard it and alerted the rest of the flock. This pullet had to have spent the night out and the incident probably happened near dawn. Just my observation.
