So what does everybody have planned for their flock this spring ?

I know we have a lot planned,
We just finished a coop for my barnevelder project today and got them moved in and settled.
We are also planning on moving the other coop closer to the house to make things more organized and less of a hassle.
I plan on getting our birds tested and NPIP Certified.... eventually ( I have raised chickens for 3 years and have never gotten around to doing this. )

Now that I have the barnies and want to start my own little breeding project, I have some incentive to get it done.
We are also planning on starting a small scale meatie project... I think we have decided on either a trio or pair of barred rock x cornish ( Trying to breed the meat hybrid ) That way whenever we want to put a few in the freezer camp we can just hatch out a small number instead of having to order so many.

So thats all the craziness going on here this spring.

We've let our flock free-range over several acres for the last year and a half, but I think this spring we're going to have to break down and fence them.

I love having them out and about, but they think they're pets and they love to be up at the house all day greeting visitors and mooching for snacks. I can't stand the chicken poop all over the front porch anymore! We have to dodge chicken bombs every time we walk out the door and at least once a day I hear, "MOMMY! I stepped in CHICKEN POOP!" So I see a fence in the future.

Making first generation crosses between dominique hens and roosters from four different breeds to use use resulting pullets in breeding program.

Getting remote roosts setup, occupied by subflocks, and dog on job to patrol the whole place.

Finishing our coop so it's not "Frankencoop" anymore... And I'd like a better run on it as well

.

Just got the first chicken tractor (aka breeding pen) done, so will build one more of those in the next couple of weeks.

Hope to get enough treadle feeders built and working for all the coops.. last time I checked, we weren't keeping records on all the mice we were breeding and that's very irresponsible so we should probably get rid of that side project and just focus on the chickens.

We will be getting a shipment of chicks and eggs once spring hits, so we'll be busy with those little guys as well as any we hatch out.

I also really will eventually get my greenhouse built! lol...

Besides working hard on my Buff Ameraucanas and Tolbunt Polish. . .

Providing fresh produce and homegrown, non-GMO crops for food, providing better protection from predators like our new resident bobcat, and fixing the roof on my coop and nesting room. Ugh! Worst combination is living in western Washington and having a leaky roof.

Besides getting my coop finished, i am getting some bantam phoenix, and bantam sumatras that i plan on working on alot this spring and summer.

Finish the new coop
Hatch out some WH ducklings
Hatch out Olive Eggers from my red pyle roo
Hatch out some Ameraucanas to get bluer eggs
Plant garden
Get load of rock for drive
Put roof on Ameraucana run

That is where I am at this Spring too. I am quickly outgrowing what I have set up now. Plus, my coop and run look like something that Jed Clampett would think was trashy. I have 5 acres with a barn, but I don't live there yet. I don't want to put too much into chicken housing at the rent house I am in, but I would worry about predators if I went ahead and set it up on my land. I wouldn't be there to protect them.
