If you pen up your chickens it could be possible but there's a high chance they won't get along. You also will have difficulty catching the quail and finding the eggs. Quail don't seem as attracted to a nest box as chickens. They plop them where ever. That makes it difficult to raise quail both for meat or eggs when they are out running with the chickens. If you free range your chickens or don't have a totally enclosed coop and pen including roof it's not really possible. The quail will ran off and not return.
I dunno about buttons having thick shells. Maybe thicker than cortunix but I punched a hole in one of mine just marking it with a pencil. Birds are pretty careful with their eggs when brooding though.
