I dont have NZs ut I had a holland lop who was shedding like crazy about a month ago. Almost like he was going thru a molt of some sort. I didn't rabbits did that. My doe never went thru that. I combed him for almost a half an hour one day.
A baby rabbit changes its coat a couple of times before it becomes an adult. Adult rabbits are supposed to molt about once a year, usually during the summer, though any dramatic change in temperature can bring on a molt. Some rabbits seem to be constantly molting; as this sort of thing seems to be genetic, such a rabbit is best culled from a breeding program.

A rabbit that has recently completed a molt and has a minimum of loose hairs in its coat is said to have a prime coat. Molting starts at the rabbit's head, and works back from there. You can usually see the "prime line" as it works its way over the rabbit's body. Some Angoras are bred to blow the coat all at once, so they can be plucked all in one go.

hmmmm thanx guys, I pulled alot of fu from her today, its mostly across her back now, I gotta find where I PUT THAT FURMINATOR LOL

Wanted to share a pic of my new angora. I took my friends chocolate buck instead of the blue baby. If she doesn't end up selling it I may take that one as well.

Maybe you can help me. My rabbit has what seems to be an upper respiratory illness that sounds somewhat like popcorn. The vet gave her Ciprofloxacin twice a day for two weeks. We are in the second week and she's not much better. Vet said he would try another antibiotic but also wants to put her under and do xrays. He says this is pretty common. She is eating, drinking, pooping, hopping and not losing weight. What do you think???is there a recommended antibiotic?? The vet will give it to me.

Thought I would share my experience with cage dividers.
I don't know if any of you remember back when I was discussing a way to block the view of my rabbits from each other. Anyways, someone came up with the idea to use a pegboard so that it had ventilation but still obscured the view. Well, after a few months of using the pegboard, I'm still in love with it. It works great! I have bucks right next to each other and they don't pace back and forth looking at each other all day. I can also put a doe next to a buck and not worry about them breeding through the wire. None of my rabbits have chewed the pegboard and even if they did, the man at the paint store assured me it would be okay since it's a water base paint. I have solid bottom cages and the hay from one cage would migrate though the wire to the cage next door (I didn't like this for sanitary reasons), but now with the pegboards, I don't have that problem anymore. I spray the pegboards with bleach water each week when I clean the cages, it makes me feel like my bunnies' homes are staying cleaner. Overall, I'm very happy with this setup and just thought I'd update you all.

The x-rays are probably unnecessary. I can't recommend any antibiotics because it's been so long since I used them (our rabbits are always really healthy - they free range). But if the Cipro is not working, then you need to switch medication. Why does she have this illness? Is there dust in the cage that could be contributing?
