I'm going to a show next week saturday, I'm going to look at a couple Mini Rex.
Any tips on picking a good rabbit? Questions to ask the breeder?
I've been studying my Standard of Perfection on Mini Rex and have been doing some research online.
I'm looking at one that has markings like this:

They look like a Rhinelander's markings, with the spine marking and spotting on the side.
Is this good or bad? Are brokens supposed to have more of a blanket pattern? I know they need more than 10% coloring.
You said you'd been studying the standard - did you notice that you get a grand total of 5 points for markings on a broken? As long as the rabbit has at least the minimum amount of color (10%). has colored ears, color around the eyes, and color on the nose, you are good to go.As long as the body markings balance, whether it is spots, patches, or a blanket doesn't matter. The rabbit in the picture has nose spots, not a butterfly; as long as the nose spots balance, you will get no points deducted. There is a little bit of white on this rabbit's ears, so if everything else was identical, a judge might pick a rabbit with no white on its ears over this one. There are far, far more important things to obsess about than pattern on a Mini Rex!

I would image so Bunnylady, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to make a obvious mistake right off the bat.

OH! I forgot! EAR LENGTH!!! Make sure the Minis ears are no longer than your pinkie finger (approximately) or you will be DQ'd. There is an inch number, but I can't remember off my head. They should have short ears. The ears in that pic look on the longer side...

The problem is, you started off making a mistake, by asking whether that was a "good pattern". You really can't tell that by looking at that picture, because the standard says " . . . body color is to be evenly distributed in a spotted, patched, or blanket pattern. Preference to be given to an evenly balanced pattern." If the other side looked pretty much like that, then yes, it was a good pattern. If the other side looked like this (which is the example off the ARBA website) then maybe not, not because of the markings, but because it doesn't really balance. The ARBA is happy enough with this rabbit's markings to use its image to represent the breed, so I assume it must have similar markings on the other side - though with only 5 points at stake, even unbalanced markings wouldn't cost it more than a point or two.

As for ear length, the standard says 3 1/2 inches is the maximum allowable for showing.

Thanks for the clarification Bunnylady.
I'm a visual person and I sometimes have a had time reading the standard and visualizing what it would look like. I wanted to make sure blanketed wasn't preferred over spotted with the spine marking. I keep looking on line at people's explanations of the standard so I can get some pictures with it.
I plan to stay and watch the show and judging so I can learn.
I saw the pencil test I believe it's called, for the ears and body.

You'll be watching the Mini Rex judging for a LONG time! ;) If they are as plentiful as they are in NJ, than you'll be waiting on Minis for at least an hour.

Updated pic of my holland baby Chewy. Love this little guy. I had him out and about for a little bit today. I was getting worried about his ears cuz they weren't falling down, but it turns out it must be the cold weather. I brought him inside for a whole and they fell right down. Weird...
