At six months, smaller breeds are considered full grown. 

All of my rabbits have wire-floored cages. Some of my Mini Rex do have issues with the wire (Rex-coated rabbits frequently have thinner fur on the bottoms of their feet). I use a large ceramic floor tile as a sitting board on their cages. It gives their feet a break from the wire, and is easily removed for cleaning.

Oh, I forgot, I also put hay on there to play, eat and walk on. My bunnies' feet look really good. I bought one of those grabbers from Lowes to pull out the hay when I clean the hutch (because the hutch is so big).


I have a large outdoor hutch with a wire bottom but I also have 2 tiles in there and a 4" inside wood edge that they like, too. A little bit of all worlds and easy to clean.

How large are mini velvets? My rabbit has really grown, and is now near four pounds!! When will she be done growing? ( she's six months ) Also, I'll be building her an outdoor hutch soon ( yay! ) And was wondering if wood would be better than wire for the floor? I've heard that wire isn't good for their paws, but I'm not sure how true this is, thanks!

I have wire bottomed hutches, but I always put straw in there with them. They play in it and burrow, nibble it for roughage, and have it to rest on.

Hey guys !!! My FG doe DID NOT KIndle

....On the bright side,..I took her in today and gave her a makeover lol...she got her nails trimmed ...furminated (i LOVE THAT BRUSH) and I noticed a few spots real low in her ear so I put some drops in both ears...I want to re-breed her in the next week,....She had me fooled...When I got her "bred" a month ago she looked under weight .....She even gained 3 lbs in the past month and is prob. way healthier now anyway!! oh well heres to another Shot at bunny love

Hey guys !!! What kind of brush??. I have bought some that I hoped would go through the fur but not a wire one that could injure skin. I have one bunny that really needs work on her fur (I got her that way). Any other suggestions to make a bunny's fur look better? She had a litter 4 1/2 weeks ago but looked bad before that. I got her one week before she had the litter. She is a short hair Dutch.

When the vet checked her recently he said she was very healthy (I forgot to mention the sneezing and she didn't sneeze while she was there). She seems fine otherwise. She lives outside.

Uh oh. The first most important thing to do is to quarantine her immediately until you can get it figured out.

If she has discharge coming from her nose at all get an emergency appointment and quarantine her. It could be something called the snuffles which is very very dangerous and quickly fatal for bunnies so do act quickly.

However if not, she is likely just allergic to something. But get an appointment anyway as rabbits tend to hide their symptoms when unwell as a result of always being the 'hunted animal and not wanting to appear vulnerable to any possible predators.

Not saying this is what is going on, just throwing this out there. Rabbits have an almost uncanny ability to wall off infections. Sometimes one will get exposed to an infective agent (Pasteurella, Staphylococcus, or another bacterium) that will set up housekeeping in the rabbit's nasal passages. The infection doesn't progress, nor does the rabbit defeat it; it just lurks. Then, when some stress comes along that challenges the rabbit's immune system, the rabbit starts sneezing and may even blow out the occasional glob of thick mucus. Most of the time, these rabbits seem fine, and they are, but this infection is always lurking. Most treatments will stop the symptoms, but because of the nature of the rabbit's immune system and the rabbit's nasal passages, the infection can't be eliminated, just controlled. This is what makes rabbit people tear their hair out about "Snuffles," the fact that you can't get rid of it.

Does she have good hay? Or is it dusty? Could that be what's causing her to sneeze?

The brush is call "the furminator" its asontv...they have it at all pet stores!! it works fantastic...its usually used for cats and dogs
