57 rabbits! Your post made me laugh. I am putting so much time and effort into planning and researching before I get the 3 that I want to start with. What types of rabbits do you have? Which do you think are best for meat. That will be my next adventure, after successfully raising 3 pet chickens as well as raising and dispatching my first batch of meat chickens. My family is shocked that I successfully dispatched the meaties on my own. You can imagine the side ways glances I am getting now that I'm talking about cute little bunny rabbits. Anyway, I am carving the path to self sufficiency whether my family is completely on board yet or not. My neighbors want to know what happened to their "city girl" neighbor. My response is "I've always been a country girl at heart".

I've had rabbits for years and worked as a veterinary assistant for years as well. Typically when you have a rabbit that gets an abscess, the infection is pasteurella. It is the dreaded "P" word in rabbits. Its a nasty germ that can be tricky to treat at times and other times its relatively simple. Rabbits are considered "exotic" species and are VERY sensitive to general antibiotics but one thing that's always worked wonders on mine with pasteurella is Baytril. It comes in both chewable and injectable forms. Ive typically had to give it in 10-14 day regimens but it depends on the rabbit. I see quite a hole there, which can be from the abscess but also check thoroughly all over the body for very small holes or lumps (it will take awhile with an angora, i have one myself!) It looks as though it may be from a cuterebra which is also known as a boy fly larva, depending your location, those are very common on fluffy outdoor bunnies and cats. Best of luck with your bun bun!Hi all!
I have a rabbit emergency and while this thread is for showing rabbits, it's the only rabbit thread I can find that is still active, so really hoping you guys can help me out!!!
We have 2 rabbits that are supposedly angora mixes. We picked them up as bunnies a flock swap around Easter for our kids because they were begging for them. No health issues with them. We had them in a hutch and they kept escaping and burroughing under the shed (we live in city limits on 1/3 acre fenced in with privacy fence). We left the hutch door open and leave fresh food & water daily. They run around all day and play, eat my garden, hang out with the chickens who free range as well. At night they go into their bourough under the shed to sleep instead of the their hutch. They've been doing that since about June so we just let them do it, they seem a lot happier. Every week or so we round them up to check their teeth & nails, and they've always looked good.
This morning when we did we saw that one seemed to have an abscess which was opened?!? The pus is all out, but it kinda smells. The vet is closed on Sunday so turned to google and BYC. If this is an abscess from what I am reading they will continue to occur and I will have to keep taking him to the vet for surgeries? Long term that sounds very expensive! What can I do now to help him out???
What can I clean it with? What can I put on him? Is there some kind of antibiotic or something I can give him (like tylan I use on chickens)?
PLEASE HELP!!!
