I seldom post many places here except for the Peafowl forum,so somewhat of a newbie here.We have several older chickens that no longer lays eggs anymore, and during the wintertime, eggs are non existant for the most part,so we're looking into slowly exiting chickens and getting just a few black australorpes for eggs only, and rabbits. I've located a fantastic breeder of American Blues and Whites,he also has all 7 colors of Silver Foxes. He's very well versed in genetics and knows some of his Silver Foxes are carriers of other colors they do not show themselves. He raises his to the standards for expected weight by a certain age.
We will get blue and white Americans,,but we are looking for a pair of black americans that at least meets the size required for a certain age of the blues and whites. We will be able to get Silver,Blue,Sable,Lilac,Chocolate,Smokey Pearl,White, all out of selected parents. His American lines comes from the original breeder of the Can -Am lines on the west coast. But we want a pair of good black Americans so we can breed to whites for the deep blue americans. Even tho blacks are not recognized, there seems to be a shortage of this color.Anyone here,or anyone that may have a neighbor that has excellent black ameericans that can be found?? Ours will come in early February,,and I cannot wait.

These are my new babies I just got today! They are 9 week old Flemish Giants. I need names! They are sisters =)
I just thought I'd share with you all how my rabbit watering setup is going....which is WICKED AWESOME!!!!!!!!! In all, I spent about $200 to water 5 cages. I have a good bit of leftover nipples and tubing, so I can easily add on if I need to.
I wish I could show pics, but, we have no camera at current (HINT,HINT Santa!). We used a large chest cooler for the tank, bought a circulating pump and heater (I'm in Maine) and I think hubby used PEX tubing for it...anyhoo....I LOVE that I don't have to deal with frozen water! THanks for all the advice and insight!
My mini rex doe has started putting hay into her box. Hopefully the babies will be on their way soon!!!
It is AWESOME Winkle, to not have to carry water down, thaw crocks, throw ice out, refill crocks....NICE I TELL YA!!! I think we're going to this system for the chickens soon as well. We have the ducks, chickens, and geese together, and the coop floor is wetter than I would like it to be. The mess the ducks and geese make is ridiculous. So our plan is to make a waterer for the birds with a 5 gallon bucket, and hopefully they will all drink from it. We'll still bring a 3 gallon bucket of water out for the ducks and geese to 'play' in, but it will be in the yard, not the coop, so there shouldn't be such a spillage issue.
I'm going to put a heater in the coop in a few minutes as well. Hate too, but it is going to be COLD this week.
