What rooster to get??

I'm close enough , I was thinking on getting a welsummer rooster or a barred rock
my welsummer rooster is in the background. We had to make stew with him. He was extremely aggressive. I will not try another

I currently have black Ameracauna rooster who has been wonderful. Speckled Sussex have varied; one was wonderful, two were jerks. Salmon Favorelles are sweethearts, IMO. It depends on your goals and breeds you find interesting, there is no one right answer. Marans roosters have been nice here too. I get straight run chicks in breeds I want to try, and keep one or two likely cockrels, then see how they mature. Mary

I've always heard good stories about aracaunas seriously considering getting one, anyone know what New Hampshire reds are like??

New Hamps tend to be tough pushy birds, IMO. Mine certainly were! Auracaunas are very rare, probably hard to find, unless a breeder lives nearby. It depends are the makeup of your flock and your breeding goals. Australorps tend to be nice; so many choices! Mary

. Well my friend has a new hamp and its the sweetest thing ever he also has a very kind and lovely Wyandotte rooster

You can't judge a whole breed by one bird. Some breeds have tendencies toward being more aggressive, but that doesn't mean they all are. I've read on here that people have had "nice, sweet" Barred Rock Roosters, and the same with EE's. Those two breeds have given me the meanest roosters I've ever had. My Brahma was a sweetheart. Someone else has maybe had the opposite experience.

I've always had good luck with frizzle Cochin roosters. They are very docile. The only standard rooster I've had good luck with is an Americauna. I've had some really nasty roosters!!!

My Ameracauna mix/EE rooster is awesome. He was sold to me cuz he was one of four and beating up the other guys on his farm, but he's excellent at his job...always keeping watch for predators while they're ranging, nice to my girls. He never has been threatening towards us at all. We really like him.
