Can anyone tell me what breed these hens and rooster are? We have incubated a few eggs and only had one hatch. Wondering if there's a way to tell if it's a hen or a roo?

The hens are Red Sexlinks, the rooster is a crossbred.

Not at this age. Maybe at 6-8 weeks.

i saw somewhere that red sex link hens will produce red pullets and lighter colored cockerals? Is that not reliable?

Nope, it's not.

Sex linkage is a one-time deal. A red sex link hen will basically give you red and white chicks, depending of course on what the rooster is. But you can't sex the chicks as littles, as the sex is no longer linked to the color.

Exactly right. The sex linking is lost in after the first generation. Even a red sexlink rooster over red sexlink hens won't produce sex linked chicks.
