Hello! One of my ducklings has drainage coming from one eye and tonight I noticed that there is swelling behind the eye. It's too late for me to head into town to buy anything and I have no antibiotic ointment of any sort at home. Is there anything I can do tonight to help until I am able to get something to help treat it? Other than the eye, everything else seems to be normal. Thanks!

I would make a mild saline solution - some of the medical web sites have recipes - boil water to kill microbes, add salt, let it cool, store in a clean container.

The web sites will tell you how much salt to how much water.

Just table salt.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've been doing a saline rinse on the eye followed by an application of vetramycin (I bought that the next day). It is starting to look a little better but I think it will take time.

Some of these things do take some time. Keep an eye on her behavior - if she shows signs of lethargy, or seems to be out of it, infection may have spread and she may need oral antibiotics. But for now, let's hope it's just surface.
