We found a baby blue jay a few weeks back

We left it outside and the parents actually came down and was still feeding it until it was able to get back into a tree.

Normally, a feathered fledgling like that should be left alone. The parents will take care of it on the ground. The parents may have avoided going to it because you were nearby. They may have given up on finding it. Call wildlife rehab.

find out what it is, if it's an insect eater DO NOT feed wild earth worms, they themselves have little parasites that when injected by a bird live in it's throat and cause it to suffocate

it looks like a little sparrow or something, I've heard a similar call around here from adult birds, but can't place it.

the way it's beak is, it's got a few more weeks of being fed by parents.

you can raise it, but it'll take atleast a few MONTHS of your time, you need to make sure it knows how to eat, drink and bathe COMPLETELY on it's own for atleast 2-3 weeks before even TRYING to release it.

GOOD LUCK

we didn't find any babies this year, bummer

meal worms don't have any protien alot of fat.

cat/kitten food or puppy food soaked in water is a good suplliment

along with crickets and any other insects you might find, like moths and such

I have had a lot of luck with baby bird food from the pet store. Its meant for hand feeding pet birds but this is what was recommended to me by our local wildlife rehab lady. Unfortunatly ours no longer will take in any other animals because of some stupid law changes so we are on our own.

I know she used meal worms a good bit but not sure on wish types.

The only bird I ever found tricky were doves, other than that I have always used the feed from the store. Mix with warm water and go for it.

It looks like a little Sparrow - I used to raise them from time to time in California when I came across them. It doesn't look like it has tail feathers yet.

My vet once gave me some mix with ground up bugs but you can use baby food chicken and baby rice with a lot of water. You need to use a round ended tooth pick and scoop a little and literally put it in its mouth. Meal worms are good too but kind of big.

In a week or so it will get tail feathers and be able to perch.

Mine loved to dive bomb the cage! A few times knocking off the bottom..

I always set them free - some hung around for a meal worm snack and would fly off.

Good Luck
They are sweet!

There are birds that lay their eggs in the nests of other birds and thier babies push out the other chicks in competing to be fed. This looks like the unlucky someone who fell out of the nest -no tail feathers can't balance.

It takes a couple weeks of feeding and they get the hang of it. Learning to fly is sort of fun.
