Hey everyone! So tomorrow I’m going to get some more chicks and was wondering what breeds you guys suggest. They have barred rocks, cuckoo marans, buff Orpingtons, production blues, and turkens. I’ve had all of those breeds before but it’s been a while since I’ve had any of them and would like to hear what you guys think!

That depends on what you want them for.

Buff Orpingtons (BOs) eat lot but are good for meat. Fairly good layers and they normally lay steadily throughout winter. Very tame, they are great pets!

Barred Plymouth Rocks are probably my favorite ever chicken breed! Great layers, good for meat too. Very friendly and tame. Beautiful plumage is a bonus!

I have never kept the other breeds you listed, unless by Production Blue you mean Easter Eggers (EEs). Sometimes sold as "Americanas", EEs are very friendly, great layers, and have beautiful eggs!

I recommend at least getting one EE, for the colorful eggs. Maybe two, because some EEs lay brown eggs instead of green or blue eggs.

Good luck!

I had barred rocks previously and I loved them but I don’t think I’ll be getting them this time around. The production blues are a cross between Rhode Island reds and blue Australorps.
