What should I put in my chicken first-aid box?

Yogurt for chickens 101 - have your running shoes on; place a bowl of yogurt or a tray of veggies with dollops of yogurt on top or a pan of oatmeal with dollops of yogurt on top on the ground for your chickens; run away quickly! My hens LOVE yogurt and it goes flying whenever I serve it - they get covered (heads, necks, and some splatters on the bodies) and anything near them gets a coating too. They then help each other clean up. For my 12 hens, I usually serve 4 oz (total) in dollops on their greens or on top of oatmeal about once a week.

In a pinch, white flour will work to stop blood as well. The "medical" content of our kitchens is amazing.

Dirt works, too, with obvious major problems.

Basically all you need is something dusty. Corn starch and flour are good choices because we also assume that they're pretty clean.

Some other ideas:

Saline solution - wound wash
Betadine - disinfect wounds
Antimicrobial powder - oozing wounds
Ichthammol or Desitin - infected scabs
Pipe Cleaners - broken toes
Tongue Depressors - splint
First Aid Tape - wrapping splint
Vaseline - protect from frostbite
Bag Balm - just about anything
KY Jelly - egg bound
Preparation H - orikaose
Sandwich Bags - collect suspicious droppings
Paper Towels
Sevin
DE
Molasses - laxative

Another useful item is Dermabond to close minor lacertations and cuts. A tube of Superglue will do just as well if you can't get Dermabond. A roll of Coban is also useful for splints and wound wraps and to immobilize injured wings. Just be careful using it because it can roll up and tighten cutting off circulation if left on too long.
