what should I put on cement run?

My coop is being built inside my garage and will open out into a chain-link dog run that is cement. What footing would be best to put on top the cement?? I will also want to somehow extent the run out onto some of that dirt and grass area. Probably not with chain-link but with something?? Any suggestions?? Maybe I should just make a chicken tractor to have too??

What kind of soil do you have? I would use either sand or pine shavings. It depends what you could use better. I have sand in the run because our soil is all clay. I add it to different gardens and for the berry bushes. I use shavings in the coop and use them to keep weeds down in the woods. I would use whatever will be of the most benefit to you.
