I’m not trying to be *that* person, but I think you should rehome them all. You described the birds as “trapped” and, in my opinion, if you’d rather get a deal than have healthy, happy birds, you have no business with them. I mean no offense by this, however, I think it’s extremely important to get them to a place where they’ll have a good life, as pets or otherwise.

I'm posting this so I can get an idea of what to do, so obviously I plan to get them a better life and/or death because the life they are living now is just "trapped" in my opinion. But because of my previous research, I have nagged my parents to get a run, so now they have a slightly better life.

I think we really need to know what the conditions are and also, what was your goal in getting the birds? Meat, eggs, pets? Right now it sounds like you're not really wanting to keep them, like maybe they were cute or the kids begged for them (or maybe I read it wrong) so if that's the case, rehoming them or just processing them for eating would be my suggestion, but if you're actually wanting to keep some we'd need photo(s) of your set up would help, or detailed information, such as breeds of birds and exact measurements of coop/run/cage what have you.
I don't think we ever had a goal, they were multi-purpose (although not eggs, so pets and meat) if you want pictures, go to my previous threads, because I have deleted all my pics already.

Maybe if we knew from the beginning the full situation folks would have gone easier on you. I’m glad you nagged your parents to get a run! Sounds like lots of these birds will be meat soon; good for you for caring about the conditions they live in!

Next time, keep researching until you have a clear idea of what’s needed. And get it before you get chicks, if you can.

Best of luck!

I love my birds. I rush to the post office on delivery day before they even call, often in the dark to get them home, safe and warm ASAP. I buy them the best feed. I spend time carefully watching them hoping all are well and am very sad if any had a difficult trip. I carefully pick the poop off their fuzzy little butts with warm water if necessary. I cook them a scrambled egg treat most mornings in hopes they will befriend me. I spend hundreds of dollars on fencing and comfortable housing to protect them. I take them fresh greens and when old enough let them run as free as possible to enjoy the sun, the soil and the delight of being a sensitive living creature. This discussion saddens me. The polical correctness and indirectness frustrates me. I haven’t been on this forum for years. I have immediately been reminded why.

I'm sorry this post has made you frustrated.

Or you could build a proper coop & run. Plenty of ideas on here for that. But don't buy or keep chickens until you address your housing/run issue.

From my measurements, it's about big for one adult chicken.... But, of course one adult chicken would be cramped in there neverless, unless we tip the cage over.
