What size should my run be?

How big of a run do I need for 4 chickens?

If they are standard sized chickens 10sqf per chicken and if they are bantam 5 sqf per chicken will do.

10 sq foot per chicken? Does this hold true for chickens that will be allowed to free range at least 3-4 hours every day, hopefullly more on most days.

I'm thinking 1 hr of free ranging everyday is more reasonable for my circumstances. I work full-time and I have some possums and raccoons in my hood so they will not be free-ranging without supervision.

If you'll only be letting them out for 3 or 4 hrs a day, I would not personally count on that letting you cram them into a smaller run with any particular margin of safety. You can try of course. Maybe it would work for you. It is real hard to stop picking/cannibalism problems once they start, however.
