What snacks DON'T or chickens like???

Mine are a bit snooty as well I have a foody that comes to check out what is in the bowl and if there is not enough green in there she stomps off complaining. What is the issue with avocado? I read somewhere here that their birds will eat citrus mine won't touch it. This is what their bowl looks like most mornings and they will turn their beaks if something is missing or added. This is what they got this morning and I did not cook oatmeal for them but it is in there dry and my foody clucked up a storm. I remind her she could have been laying in a factory and not having any comforts. What is your take on adding ground flax seed I do add that about 2-3 times a week?

Avocado pits are toxic to chickens. I don't think it's healthy to give them avocado sense the pits are toxic.
You're also not supposed to feed them citrus fruit, I don't remember why though.

Just don't give them tomato leaves, those are toxic to chickens.

I did not know that. Very happy that you told me cause I am getting my list of plants together for the chicken run and was considering tomatoes. I plan to fence off an area in the chicken run to grow some plants and then let the chickens have access to them after the plants grow well.
I recently discovered another thing my chickens will not eat. I offered boiled eggs to them. They never were interested.

I've heard it said that chickens will eat anything that doesn't eat them. I've never heard of them eating anything harmful. Tomato plants may or may not be toxic to chickens but I don't think they're palitable. Chickens will get in the garden & love the tomatoes but they don't bother the plants. Basically they can eat vanything you can eat. Certain "information" gets repeated often enough here to become fact even if it;s false.

There are tons of thing that are toxic to chickens, we have to be careful on what we feed them.

I didn't know about avocado? Is that actually true. Mine had one the other day mixed with yogurt and they are all fine. It's the first time they have eaten it though.

Well, the pit is definitely toxic to them, so they say not to give them the avocado part because it touches the pit.

I'll have to get your "recipe"! I often buy bags of different grains and mix them up. I add flax to that mix. Half as much as each of the other grains. I also sprout mung beans for them. I give those to the girls once a week to every two weeks. As for the avocados, it was on one of the "do not feed" lists. I'm sure they've gotten a little from leftover salads I've fed them, but I try to avoid it.

My statement is based on 53 years of chicken keeping experience involving thousands of birds. I also have a Poultry Library of over 100 volumes I've used for research during those 53 years.
Probably just ego but somehow I resent being corrected by a 10 chicken newcomer repeating BYC misinformation.
