What So Many Don't Seem to Understand About Cornish X Broilers

I don’t read any arrogance or undue judgement in the OP,nor do I have any here, but i have come to learn that everyone’s interests and abilities come from their own experiences that frankly, are typically come by honestly based on everyone’s unique experiences. But my main point is that everyone, myself and the OP is on a continuum. My chicken choices 8 years ago are different than my chicken choices today. What I find societally intolerable and want to “sorta rant” about changes based on my income, my available time, the stories that I hear about “the old days” and the new thing that I’m pissed about today. So I’m both proving JDNs point and disagreeing that the CX is The de facto starting point for everyone. If CXs fit your needs, go ahead. If not, that’s fine.

I strongly STRONGLY agree that we have to examine our motivations for everything. An honest evaluation of what we’re doing and why is the first step in knowing if our actions are sustainable. I’m raising a broody breed this year because I want her to raise meat birds on her own. But I still plan to buy those day old chicks after they were shipped across Texas. Sustainable? No. More sustainable than heating them with an electric lamp? Yes. More environmentally sustainable than a chicken CAFO? Yes. We are all on a continuum.
