What sort of quail are these?

My Italian chick kind of looks like the red headed. I will have to take a picture and post it. Of course, he's a mutt, so trying to breed some true will be nearly impossible. My chick looks sort of like a hawk headed parrot but without the crest and fancy colors.

I am with Critter...I want some of those!!!!

Yeah JJMR794, Same picture, because I saved it as a pic to show you folks, if you knew what they are.
and yeah ive bought some of them off that link.

Here's pictures of my little Italian chick. He's 4 weeks old. He looks somewhat like your redhead. What strikes me is the spotting/striping on the top of his head. It's not like anything I've seen before in the other color patterns and very similar to the birds in the picture that you posted.

I'm not sure what I would breed him to to make more like him. I'm presuming that his mom was the Italian and his dad was a red tux, but I can't be sure since I have a mixed pen.

I know I'm digging up a SUPER OLD thread, but unanswered questions drive me insane lol! The Quail In the 1st pic from the OP are a European mutation called "pansy". It's VERY similar to the red breasted mutation in Button Quail (cpq). To my knowledge, Not related to the Italian Mutation.

I can say with 100% certainty that the "Pansy" mutation of Coturnix is now In the states. ONE guy has them lol....luckily, my birds are directly related to the line that produced the Pansy mutation in the states! No more eating quail eggs at my house, I'm hatching every one I can, haha! I have some info and pictures but I don't have permission to post it, so it will remain in the vault for the time being.
