the above post made me laugh but afterward I realized the reason was because of how ironically true it was so more of a nervous laugh than gleeful laugh
Only manufacturing layoffs have been happening here in WI. There are usually lots of IT and programming jobs in Madison. And the UW and state capitol are here, meaning lots of jobs to support those. The wacky housing market never had too much of an effect here either.
I read that North Dakota is also one of the places that's thriving and has many job openings.
I'm in Michigan, though not originally form her. But I love Michigan!! My DH lost his job in December, and we're going to be in a world of hurt if he doens't find work soon. He's an engineer...yep, in the automotive industry. Sigh....
Well you could probably find something at one of the many chemical plants that we have here on the coast. The nuclear plant is in the process of expansion around Palacios, Texas. Cost of living is pretty reasonable here too compared to alot of places around the country.

Yup, ND has jobs, so many one busines shut down because it could not fill the positions needed to run. It was technical jobs too. Big oil wins in ND.

Colorado was #48 on the stimulus payout list. Reason is because we're not too bad off. We have a lot of technology jobs here and were set up for green technology. It's all those liberals in Boulder. We are still growing here even though we don't have any water. Housing has dropped about 1/2 of the national avg. Not a bad place to live. Just expensive.

We lived in Tx for 7 years. It's so hot you have to do any outside work in the dark. My kids didn't know what hills looked like. The mountains in Co freaked them out. They do have one redeeming quality though. No state income tax. No wage garnishment either except child support and fed.
My dad works in the computer field - he works for DHL in Phoenix managing their VAX system. They used to be in Conneticut, but moved to AZ about 5 years ago and my dad and rest of my family went too.
