What surface cover to use

if its possible...i'd say the best thing to do is cover the top instead of the bottom... if you can make is so you can even use just a tarp for a roof it would be better than nothing... thats whats on top of my run... it works pretty well

I put a roof over my current run (5x16) that is currently some 16 foot treated 2x4s standing on their side, running the length of the run for strength. I then covered it with a tarp and plastic zip ties to secure it to the metal sides of my run. This helps shade the birds, provide overhead cover and also sheds some of the rain off when it does rain. I plan to cover it with metal roof panels. As for the floor, sand it a great idea. Best of luck to you.

I have a covered run and a sand floor. The sun was getting in in the afternoons and making it a bot hot, so I made a shelter with shade cloth stretched over a wood frame. Cover your run with some plastic roofing panels and fill your run with sand. So easy to maintain with a rake/kitty litter scoop.
