What temps should you insulate for?

I am renovating an existing coop and am wondering if I should insulate. I live in New Mexico, in a high desert climate. Winter lows at night average 10s-30s in the colder months with highs in the 40s, however we are in zone 5, so we can get colder spells.

I've been visiting other coops in the area and none have been insulated.

I do plan on constructing teh coop well, minimizing drafts, and providing covering for teh windows.

It never hurts to insulate. OTOH I don't see it as in any way necessary in your situation either. So it is kind of just a personal choice. Will probably depend somewhat on whether you happen to find cheap/free materials for insulation and for then covering up the insulation. You can always do it later on, as long as you leave the inside walls open.

-20F here in MN. It's been a long long winter.

I honestly don't think you need to insulate where you are. I would, however, make sure your coop is draft free. That makes a huge difference.
