I tend to agree with the above as well. Silkies do not always show a comb right away. My roosters kept me guessing for a long time. One did not start crowing until he was 7 months old. I would bet anything that Dragon is a roo because of the 'streamer' feathers coming into his crest area. I would tend to think Snake is a pullet due to a evenly more poofy crest. Little could really go either way. It is really hard to tell with these guys.

The males have spikey (streamer) feathers in the crest that flip back towards the body. Also hey have longer downward curved tail feathers.

The female has a well rounded crest with no streamers. the tail feathers are straight and not downward curving. Snake should fill out more and have a fluffier tail as she ages.

The combs on Silkies are slow to develop. I look for width rather than hight. Males tend to have wider combs from side to side.

Well I have heard so many say they cant tell for a long time but here, I can usually tell by 12 weeks because all of my males get a much larger, broader lumpy comb. The females stay pretty flat or get a little bit of a comb but later on. Also the males feel heavier and have heavier leg bones. The feathers on the head can sometimes look like they swoop back a bit at first especially if the head is going to be full and round. But if there are longer feathers in the back that are obviously sticking out past the line of the other feathers, that is a roo. It is easier to show someone than to explain it. But the lack of combs leads me to think pullets??
