What the heck is this? (Gross picture warning)

Quote: Get a baseline weight on her... The pro's say to tube when a bird loses 5% of it's weight. Of course you would also have to figure out what was causing the loss, but tubing will buy you time to do that. Once they get to about 1/2 their ideal body weight it's really hard to bring them back. Here are some body score pictures:

Once they get to a one it's very hard to save them.

I don't understand what's going on. She seemed completely back to normal so I put her back out with the flock and after 2 days she was hunched over sleeping all afternoon again. How frustrating! They are all getting the tetracycline I guess she does need something stronger. Waiting to hear back from the vet. What kind of tube should I buy? I think I need this on hand if not for this chicken maybe for future use. Also.. What do u feed through the tube, watered down feed crumbles? Since she lost a little weight the weather might be too hard on her it's in the 20's. (I hate where I live but I don't have the means to move :( )

Thanks Kathy..

She'll do better if you can get her in a warm room. Talk to the vet about starting Baytril and ask them for a size 18 French catheter tube and a 60ml catheter tip syringe. You'll want to tube fluids first, but then you'll need something like Kaytee Exact baby bird food.

Kathy, the vet still hasn't called me back yet. She seemed to be better, so I tried to take her off the tetracycline. Then she started having the white gooey poop again. I will try to post a picture.

I just can't seem to figure out what's going on with her. It's driving me crazy!

Call them back.

I did of course. Tried a couple of other vets too, to see if they see chickens. No luck. I can't seem to find anyone to help me. Was just curious if you had any other thoughts or ideas. I can't find Baytril online without a perscription. The tips of her comb are turning dark too. I worry this is a bad sign.

Baytril (Enrofloxacin)

Banned for use in poultry, so read this before using:

Generic 10% (100mg/ml) prices start at $24.47:

I don't believe that the bottles above have any manufacturing info on them and they certainly are not meant to be used for injections. IMNSHO, injectable anything should come from a sterile, sealed, container.

Oral Baytril 10% (100mg/ml) - $25.49

Thanks again for all your help. Don't know why I was unable to find that.
