What the heck just happened here?

Ok...well, at least my abnormality is normal. Glad to hear it extends to other animals, too, since we have two dogs and two cats (down from THREE dogs). The cats, if they don't learn to SHUT UP at night, may be fed to wild bears soon.

I've named the twelvth chicken Red Bird (how original, right, since she's a RIR). She is VERY sweet. I've owned her less than 24 hours and she already comes up to me when I call her! I guess she's about 2 1/2 weeks old and much darker than the other RIRs. Very beautiful deep red feathers coming in.

I think I'll start watching for free wood and seriously plan another coop.

NOW you know what its like . We started off with 1 hen that made her home here and after discovering she was laying under our tree out back , hubby decided to go to feedstore and buy laying pellets .......... WELL , that started a WHOLE new ball game .

well , well , well , that did it . He arrived here with 5 - 1 week old baby chicks ..... 3 yr. old grand daughter FELL IN LOVE .

Next day , he returned with 15 more . and next trip ( you know it ) he arrived with 10 more chicks . ALL different breeds .......

RIR's , Black austrolorps , and pylmouth Rocks .

WELL , thats NOT all just yet . He arrived here with 6 basically full grown hens .

3 were already laying and still waiting for the other 3 to start anyday now . WELL , needless to say , his next trip was to Lowe's and Home depot .

We just finished YESTERDAY our 8x12 Coop and 12x20 run .

YOU CAN GUESS IF YOU WANT TO , I HAVE , he will be enlarging the coop and run shortly . HE BEST HIRE him some help on that enlargement .

I have to ask - where do all of you live that you can have so many chickens? I live in an urban area: typical American city block with alley, parking strip, and neighbors on either side. I can't imagine more than, say... 5 chickens.

I'm working on my BF to get him used to the idea that we'll get a couple more chickens next year. heheheh

Well I met up with a fellow BYC'er today andd picked up 12 RIR that are 3 weeks old and I don't even know how many I have total now !!!

I live in Lafayette , Louisiana . We do have a city Ordinence that says we can have all the chickens we want as long as they are in cages , or in a totally fenced closed in area . NOT free range AT ALL . Naturally area has to b e totally sanitary , and has to be no closer than 25 ft. from any neighbor or any business on any side .

I'd be screwed - my lot is just 35' wide! We're putting our coop on the property line in the side yard where we never (used to) go. That house is a rental... guess I should let them know about the chickens, huh? Was goign to go introduce them to the chicks yesterday but one pooped on my shoulder right when I was going to head over.

"Um hi... my name is Jenn. Why yes, that is poop on my shirt! Oh, and on my leg, too! I'd like for you to meet my chickens."

the first time I got my chicks I came home with 4... then within a week I had 8 more plus 4 ducks... I now have a total of 15 chikens and I so want more, I keep my open on here and craigslist all the time to see what I can add to my obsesstion... my hubby does not understand... but everyone knows we all need more
