Well lets see..we started with 5 bantam roosters bought at auction for $1 each about 3 years ago. We just wanted to see if theyd survive out here. They were sooo much fun that the chicken addiction began lol! Then came the ducks a customer buying a horse gave me. Den fell inlove with them and bought more..and more lol.

Right now i have.. 16 easter eggers, 6 banty cochins, 9 call ducks, 4 rir, 2 barred rock, 2 orphs, and a black sex link that are all adults. Oh and 11 guineas. Then there are the chicks in the brooder room. 14 rir, 8 australorp, 8 golden campines, 2 ee's, 12 banty cochins, and 17 guinea keets. Then in the outdoor grow pens there are 13 easter eggers and 9 marans that are off to a new home friday. 8 spangled russian orloffs. And the 24 guinea keets that im keeping for a friend til friday. Umm 5 newly hatched easter eggers in the brooder here by my desk. And two bators full of eggs incubating lol.

Hello..my name is cheryl..and im a chicken addict <grin>. Of course there are also 22 sheep, a donkey, 9 horses, a cow, 3 nubian goats, 2 english shepherds, 2 livestock guardian dogs and i have no idea how many barn cats.

Fortunately i live on 50 acres out in the middle of no where lol.

I was supposed to have 6 and now have 15. I convinced DH that we should get two ducks. We now have 4. No wonder he's digging in his heels about a "couple" of goats!
We have 3/4 of an acre in a semi rural neighborhood. 1/2 acre is fenced in and that's where all the animals are, dogs and birds.

We live in a somewhat of a big city, no I wiould say about a medium size. We live about 5 miles out of town and it is pretty rural. There are only about 6 houses on this road and about 6 or 8 gas wells at the end that they are digging. We have nothing but woods an 3 sides of us and a junky nasty looking nieghbor on the other that has a junkyard for a yard so I know that he has NO room to complain about my chickens at all.

I'm officially addicted! We started this with maybe 5 chickens in mind, that grew to 12, then I ordered 25....we now have 45...all in a 2 month period!

I just wanted 4 chickens and a small coop behind the shed. DH said no for 2 years, then he decided we should supply as much of our food as possible. He build an 8 x 8 coop so he could have a hobby. I took over the hobby and now I have 4 coops and about 50 chickens. He added the pigs and now he wants more, and he took over the garden. Working good for me.

My problem is that I need to stop checking Craigslist everyday

.

This spring I had 12 eight year old hens remaining from an original 42 that I've had since they were a day old. Well, one of them started laying again

and that egg tasted so good that I decided that I needed some more hens that actually laid eggs. I bought 4 one year old pullets that I found on Craigslist. Then a month or so later the same guy was selling week old chicks (araucana/americana type chicks and RIR's) so I now have 12 chicks that are 5 weeks old and quickly outgrowing their brooder.

I still keep checking Craigslist everyday :o PLUS I have been keeping an eye on E-bay and Eggbid.com for hatching eggs because I found a Hovobator on Craigslist for only $40.00 (with the auto turners) that a school teacher had used only 3 times!!!
