Was late getting the girls out of the coop this morning, could hear them "clucking" before I opened the ramp, well when they got out in the yard they raised cane for about 15 minutes! They were "balking and clucking" and wouldn't shut up! I threw some dry meal worms down to quiet them up and they didn't even want them! That was a first! After awhile them calmed down and were back to normal. Does anyone have any idea what that was about? I think I should note they have not begun to lay yet.

How old are they sounds like a pre laying things. Often when hens are about o lay they act like that.

They were complaining that you were LATE. And don't let it happen again!

Not quiet sure how old they are, we have had them for 3 months so I am guessing between 5 and 6 months. Boy did they read me the riot act! LOL!

Aren't you lucky? Mine are giving me trouble if I am past 6:30. DH likes to say that the only things more OCD than me about schedules are the hens.

Yes..........................look Out For A Predator...............they Sound An Alarm............. Many Times Mine Were Saved By Thier Alarm System

If there are no signs of predators in the area, I would say that your girls have the pre-laying jitters. My hens were soooo loud for a week before they started to lay. I've never seen so much nervous pacing and racket-making in my life.
