What the heck was that about??????

I was thinking about it and it could also be rats in the coop i remember mine a few years ago got like that when there was a rat in there.

I totally agree. I would check your coop VERY carefully for any evidence of predators, or any spots where a predator may have breached.

My chickens get very angry when not let out at a prompt time. My rooster gets extra rowdy

Thanks guys! I think it could of been any of those things. We will check the coop over to make sure it is not compromised, it is made very well with hardcloth and we have a privacy fence around the whole yard. It may of been because we were late letting them out by about an hour but I am hoping they are also getting ready to lay. We just got back from running errands and noticed that one of nest had been laid in. I have not seen any "squatting" yet. Is it possible they would begin laying without ever squatting?

I've only had my hens for a month; but I've already learned to recognize the "how dare you" sqwauk. I have one that has quite a sassy beak on her. If I'm just a few minutes late (by their watches) to open the hen house door, they really let me have it!

Did it sound different from their usual clucking? Did it sound sort of like "buk buk BUK GAWK" repeated over and over? That's the egg song, and it's a sign the girls are getting ready to lay.

The first time I heard an egg song from our flock I didn't know what it was. I was in the bathroom at the time, and I thought from the racket a predator was at my flock for sure. I ran outside fast, TP streaming behind me, and found the flock just singing their hearts out.

x3 or x4, whatever we are on now! After much careful listening, I can tell the difference between a predator (bok bok bok bok BAGAWWW!) and the egg song (Ba ba BA-WAH)
