What time do chickens lay eggs??

Daisy squatted two days in a row in the very corner where I put the cardboard box at today and she just sat there like that when I went to pick her up!!??

She's almost there! Shouldn't be more than another week or two at the outside.

And I agree with you, that run is not one to leave birds unattended if you have any possibility of predators coming by. Mine run around outside if we are home but I put them in the barn if we leave.

Usually chickens lay every 25/26 hours- which will put their egg laying a little later each day. It will be like Easter on your lawn :)

Pine shavings would work fine. Hay or straw work well too. Last year a friend of mine said she raked up grass clippings after they were dry and used those in the nest boxes - I'm thinking about trying that myself this year, though I wouldn't do that if any kind of pesticides or herbicides are used on the lawn.
Never thought of using grass clippings. Will have to keep that in mind next time the grass gets cut. :'D As for egg laying, from what I've gathered (and has been mentioned) there's no set time, it varies for each individual chook. I just hope mine don't lay earlier than 7:00am for the neighbour's sake. :S

My 4 girls start laying around 10am and are done by noon. I put golf balls in their nesting boxes before they started laying, and it actually worked! They have always laid in the boxes. I get 4 eggs a day! Below are pics of the first egg. It was small , but they are all large now.
