I always assumed it was in the morning but my australorp just started laying and she lays an egg everyday around 5/6 PM. Is that normal? Was I totally wrong in thinking chickens laid eggs only in the morning?

Many people assume they only lay in the morning. This is not true. They lay any time the sun is up.

  3. I've actually had some lay overnight, too!

I am just getting my assumptions corrected as well. I kept going out first thing in the morning to collect eggs and coming back empty handed, but when i get back from work at the end of the day the eggs are there waiting for me.
