OK, so I got my first egg yesterday...

But when I went out there yesterday morning, NOTHING. Than I went out there after 5pm, and I found an egg.
So is it normal for hens to lay in the afternoon/evening. I grew up only checking the boxes in the morning, so I'm not sure if laying in the evevning is normal.

I think that they lay at different times. My first egg was laid around 4 pm, my second 3 pm and my third today somwhere from 6:30 - 9:00 am.

One of the ladies comes out of the hen house to greet the day, turns around about 15 minutes later and heads back in to lay (they go out around 6:45 am).

The next 2 lay sometime early to mid morning.

Then several of them lay in the middle of the day and I've one who pushes her luck in the twilight, laying just before the sun goes down. A couple of times she's gotten stuck in the box - I think it gets too dim in the house for her to see well enough to fly up to the roost.

My birds will lay anytime of the day. When they were younger they pretty much layed in the morning. Now it can be anytime. The latest was 8:00pm.

We have 3 EE's all the same age, 19 weeks. So far, since Saturday, we have had 3 eggs, one every 3rd day. Don't have a clue who is laying, maybe all 3 *shrug*. The eggs are all quite small and 3 different colors. Will each hen lay only one shade/tone or can it vary?

So far the eggs have been found early afternoon (I'm usually checking on them 5 or 6 times a day

). Now if I can just convince them to use the nesting boxes . . .

My hens start laying in the morning, then it gets a little later each day until it gets too late in the evening. Then they start the rotation over again the next day or take a day off and start laying in the morning again on the next.
This makes perfect sense to me since it takes a hen approx. 26 hours to produce an egg.
