With it getting light earlier now I thought my girls would get up at daybreak, but no they get up at about 7:00am! The coop is relatively dark but there is light coming through the vented areas so they have got to know it's light outside. Do they normally get up later in the winter?

Chickens don't see well in dim light so if all the coop has is vents I suspect there is not enough light in the coop for them to jump off the roost.
I go out about 7 as well and mine are all on the floor and start crabbing at me to open the pop door as soon as they see me.

yea, my girls are always waiting for me to let them out around 7:30 am here in NW Georgia. They see me comming through their window which points southeast. Broody ol Sparkley will not come out but once every 2 days and thats only when she feels like it.

My boy crows at 5 am every single day... I can't imagine that the hens could sleep through that! I don't let them out until 6:30 though.

My chickens are NOT morning people.

Pop door gets opened at 7:00 am, they don't budge.
Their timed coop light comes on at 7:10 am, they don't budge.
Sun rises at 7:11 am, they don't budge.

They'll finally drag themselves out of bed about 10 minutes later. This morning I got tired of waiting for them to get up (I wanted to see them before I went to work). But, I have teenagers so I knew just what to do... I drug them out of bed.

Good thing they are so darn cute (the Silkies, not the teenagers)!

Mine are ready even before dawn. But they patiently await us. I have peeked in the window and they are all lined up on the roost looking out at me.
