What time do your hens lay?

I have 5 chickens. They don't have a specific time to lay each day, but I have noticed that each one will lay an egg about an hour or two later than they did the previous day. Yesterday 3 chickens layed later in the day, so today they didn't lay at all, but tomorrow they should be laying fairly early in the morning.

A chicken's ovulation cycle is 25hrs so for a bird in her prime lays an hour later each day until dark then skip a day and start over. In older hens that lay only a couple of eggs a week, they can lay at any time.

Wow! This is fascinating! My Frizzle Cochin just started laying. The first egg she laid came about 11AM. Then she skipped the next day. Sunday she laid about noon-ish. Yesterday I had another egg when I got home @ 4PM.

She is just getting 'regulated' though so it may change.

Ya it's funny you always hear of ppl going out in the morning to collect eggs but I eat breakfast at 7 or earlier so there are no eggs! Buy by noon I have about a dozen and by 4 I have about 18-20. Silly chicken

I thought I was the only one who had layed back chickens. Mine are doing the same thing.
My husband leaves for work around noon - once in a while he will find something but
usually, I find them when I get home around 4. They only started last week and we had
one day of no egg. This is really enjoyable!

We have about 50 birds. We get eggs all day. There are usually 5-10 eggs there at 8:30 am when I go down to let the hens out, then 25-30 at 3pm when I do the second egg pick up of the day, then often a couple around dusk when we go to lock the birds in for the night.
