What time do yours stop laying?

all but 2 of mine lay eggs by about 10:00am, the other 2 wait till about 4:00pm Mine free range most of the day and go back in the coop to lay for the most part. I found an egg sitting in the middle of the run yesterday?? It was probably from the one that just started laying--she will figure it out sooner or later.

Mine are out from around 8 am til dusk. we have 11 unfenced acres, and they go where they wish. They have always returned to the coop to lay, and the broody has sat on her nest in a nest boxes through 3 rounds of broodiness now.

I've read that chickens will lay on a 25 hour cycle. Which means they'll lay about an hour later each day until they reach their "skip day". I find that pretty much holds true with my birds although I must admit I haven't actually checked it.

God Bless,

Indeed they are RIR's. 3 came from a local feedstore and 3 I got from a farmer. Even though they are all healthy and looking good, I can really tell the difference between the 2 situations. The 3 from the farmer have the same mother and since he is a breeder that cares about the breed, he bred only his best hen. They are darker, matured at the same rate, very sweet temperments. They "feedstore 3" while they look and act healthy, they typically have different mothers so mature at different rates, different temperments, etc. I love all 6 but I will always go to a local breeder from here on out.... Thanks for the nice compliments on them! I truly believe that free ranging has alot to do with thier happy, healthy state of being. We absolutely love watching them run around, literally playing, eating seeds, leaves, grass, bugs, scratching under trees and bushes, they are curious like cats. They check out everything and everyone......
